Echoing the harmonious voices of the Confederation of Planets, we offer this spiritual guidance, in the form of an
exemption from military service. While we strive for universal resonance, we acknowledge the diversity of earthly
laws and beliefs. With reverence for each individual and nation’s journey, we invoke the spirit of 1 Thessalonians
5:21, encouraging discernment and the cherishing of truths that resonate within the framework of international
accord.
2 Jesus Discipleship Exemption
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to formally request an exemption from military service based on my deeply held religious beliefs as a
disciple of Jesus Christ. My faith directs me towards a life of nonviolence, compassion, and love for all of God’s
creation.
The teachings of Jesus Christ emphasize the importance of love, forgiveness, and the refusal to retaliate:
- Matthew 5:9: ”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
- Matthew 5:39: ”But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them
the other cheek also.”
- Matthew 26:52: Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will
die by the sword.”
- Matthew 5:44: ”But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
- Matthew 6:14-15: ”For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you
do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
- John 13:35-36: ”By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
The international community also recognizes the rights of conscientious objectors:
- United Nations Human Rights Committee: In its General Comment 22 on Article 18 of the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, it has noted that the right to conscientious objection to military service can
be derived from the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. And that A State may, if it wishes, compel
the objector to undertake a civilian alternative to military service, outside the military sphere and not under military
command. The alternative service must not be of a punitive nature. It must be a real service to the community and
compatible with respect for human rights.
- The European Convention on Human Rights: Article 9 of this convention protects the right to freedom of
thought, conscience, and religion, and the European Court of Human Rights has interpreted it to cover conscientious
objectors.
- Geneva Conventions: They recognize the status of conscientious objectors as non-combatants, and explain the
treatment of non-combatants and prisoners of war.
In light of Jesus Christ’s teachings that I hold dear and the protection of conscientious objectors under international law, I
humbly request that you grant me an exemption from military service. My beliefs arise from sincere and deeply held religious
convictions, aligning with both our national values and international commitments.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my religious exemption.
3 Epilogue
